no news is goods news.

i was driving my car and F was driving hers. we wanted to go to
panda express but it was closed since it was already 9.30pm.
she took off first and i followed. she hit the main street and
i was looking to the right and then to the left and slammed on the
gas. the moment i slammed on the gas, i saw a cyclist in front
of me and in no time, he flew. he was knocked off from his
bicycle. i was shocked!!

when i left the parking lot, i need to make a right to head west;
towards her place. i looked to the right and to the left and when
no vehicles, i turned. i was positive that i did not see anything
on the right. the cyclist was towards the east, against the traffic.

anyway, i was shocked and without hesitate, i quickly dialed 911.
the operator needed to calm me down since i was ..... really really
shocked. that guy was on the ground and passerbys came to help
him since i was on the phone. i explained with anxiety and the
operator had to calm me down a few times.

the parademic and the police came in no time. they asked who are
the witnesses, the injured, etc. later, they asked me more questions
and i called F. she came back and became my witness.

here is how i analyse the situation.
1) i think u need to cycle with the traffic flow.
2) he wasn't wearing a helmet.
3) he didn't turn on the lights.
4) he did not wear a reflective clothing.
5) i drove out from the parking lot and i was slow..... 4mph?
it was the acceleration that made the impact.

anyway, the paramedics took him to the hospital. i talked to the cops
and they said, whatever happens, do not leave the scene until everything
has been documented.

well, i did not get any phone calls today from anyone about the accident.
most of all, i do not have the victim's name, number, etc. i am praying that
he only suffered minor injuries and .... i guess..... no news is good news.

That's the problem with cyclist, they like to cycle in any direction.

And without lights? I don't think they can blame you if you didn't see him, and you weren't expecting anyone coming from the opposite traffic flow.

You won't hear anything for at least 1 month, that's when the insurance stuff kicks in (if he's suing for anything).
