my 1st hand/mobile/cellphone experience.

my first handphone was a philips. i remember u have to put a deposit
at a bank and then u got a 'free' phone. in addition, u have to maintain
that balance for a year or 2.

i was so excited. finally, i got myself a 'tai koh tai' as said in cantonese.
it means big brother big in english. everyone was looking at u
differently and somehow, your social status changed. here....here is
my handphone #. call me....i will return your call anywhere anytime.

i was worried since the ear piece can attract paper clips. back then,
there were so many rumors that the phone is bad for u, u can have
hearing lost, be sterile because of the Radio Frequency radiation, etc
nevertheless, i continued using my phone since it's still under
contract. sigh!!

it was a pretty slim phone. it has a monochrome screen and
3 rows of text. i bought another battery since they don't last very
long and u have to bring along the spare battery. burden!! burden!!
more stuff in your pocket. it was annoying esp if you are wearing
a pair of jeans. later, i bought the 'leather' case and the plastic was
still there on the screen after 3 months. i did not remove it until
after a yr. that was when i sold it to my friend.

it was irritating when it rings esp when u are riding the moped and
wearing the helmet. i could remember that it does not have the
feature, vibrate mode. it rang a couple of times when i was in church
or meeting and later, i just decided to turn it off.

one of the things that i hate is, getting your bill. u will know how much
time u called. what??? RM130!! the bill also has a feature for itemised
billing and i have to pay RM5 for that. it was ridiculous.

some ah beng and ah lian never realized that handphones comes
with a microphone. they will yell to the phone and talking super loud
that the whole restaurant knows that the mum is dating this
ang moh kau. and when having dinner, they like to show off by
placing the phones on the table. they even point at people using
their phones.

my first phone call was calling a girl. i don't remember her name.

overall, it was a very good experience and it is an excellent
telecommunications invention of humans.
